Habakkuk was a prophet who lived in the city of Judah around 600 B.C., during a time when the world was a dark, dangerous place. Babylon was a world dominant power and the people were feeling the destructive power and threats of that force. Habakkuk was man who was troubled by what he observed and the evils he saw in the world around him. He sought answers to difficult questions and boldly asked challenging questions with the hopes of not living a life filled with spirit destroying doubt. Even though Habakkuk was alive over 2000 years ago, we see many parallels to his world in the world we live in today. Like him, we want to challenge ourselves and others by asking tough questions and engaging in hard conversations so that we can appreciate and see the humanity in others.
